2010 Junior Naturalists
Congratulations to the following kids who completed this summer’s Junior Naturalist program. Have a question about a frog you saw along the trail? Ask these guys and gals!
Austin Dalfonso
Austin is 8 years old, the youngest of this year’s Junior Naturalists. He attends Wicomico Day School and loves to play baseball and wrestle. Math is his favorite subject in school (“it’s easy”). Austin’s been participating in Pemberton’s Summer Nature Camp for many years and enjoys swimming in the pond. His favorite part about the Junior Naturalist program was the End-of-the-Summer Campout where participants enjoyed a campfire, owl prowl and a nature movie before camping under the stars.
Madison Sherwood
Madison is 10 years old and attends Pemberton Elementary, where her favorite subject is Science. Like Austin, Madison also enjoys playing sports, especially soccer. She likes the trails at Pemberton, and really liked when she got to learn about Pemberton’s collection of snakes in a very hands-on way, by holding them and letting them crawl on her! She’s also a very prepared camper!
Chris Parsons
Chris is also 10 years old and is homeschooled. He enjoys playing with his many pets, including a hedgehog named Cocoa. His favorite subject to study is Science, especially herps (reptiles and amphibians)! When asked his favorite thing about Pemberton, he responded, “That’s a hard one!” He eventually decided that it would be the “beachy” part of the Osprey Trail. He was happy to report that he enjoyed everything about the Junior Naturalist program.
Alyssa Ewing
Alyssa is 11 years old and attends Salisbury Christian School. Alyssa has been attending Summer Nature Camp for many years as well. Her favorite thing about Pemberton is that “at night you can see all the stars.” Outside of Pemberton Historical Park, she likes to watch TV and reports that she doesn’t have a favorite subject in school (“It’s all bad!). Alyssa really enjoyed the Junior Naturalist trip to visit a traveling Planetarium, where participants learned all about the night sky.
Colleen Kemp
Colleen Kemp is 12 years old and attends Salisbury Middle School. She too is a frequent visitor of the park and enjoys Pemberton’s trail system. Colleen enjoyed handling the teaching animals during the Junior Naturalist program, but her favorite animal is a llama (she even has the earrings to prove it!). Outside of Pemberton Historical Park, she likes volleyball and acting.
Matthew Willey
Matthew is 14 years old and attends St. Francis de Sales. To say that our oldest Junior Naturalist loves fishing at Pemberton would be an understatement. He also loved being with the animals during the Junior Naturalist program. His favorite subject in school is Social Studies, but he’d rather be out catching robin fish!
