Great American Campout

We're partnering with local community groups to inspire people to camp responsibly and come clean for earth! This event is free to attend and fun for all ages.

Program Schedule

Saturday, June 24

  • 12-8 p.m.: Kids Zone
    Inflatables, kids activities, fishing demonstrations, environment agencies, food vendors and more.
  • 12-1 p.m.: Leave No Trace Activity • Outdoor Park Area
    Learn the seven principles of Leave No Trace. Plan ahead and prepare, travel/camp on durable surfaces, dispose of waste properly, leave what you find, minimize campfire impacts, respect wildlife and be considerate of other visitors.
  • 12-1 p.m.: Recycle Your Trash Craft • Nature Center Classroom
    Turn recycled materials into a work of art! Program is best suited for younger audience. Space is limited.
  • 1-2 p.m.: Guided Hike • Bell Island Trail
    Learn about the history of the park as well as the wildlife who call it home.
  • 2-2:30 / 2:30-3 p.m.: Goat Yoga • Outdoor Park Area
    Led by a certified instructor, featuring special guest goats!
  • 2-3 p.m.: The Wonders of Weather • Nature Center Classroom
    Participate in a cloud spotter craft and learn about and identify different types of clouds. Program is best suited for younger audience. Space is limited.
  • 3-4 p.m.: Hiking 101 • Outdoor Park Area / Wetland Walk Trail
    Learn basic hiking skills via the ten essentials of hiking, then venture out on a guided hike of Wetland Walk Trail.
  • 4-5 p.m.: Campfire Cooking 101 • Outdoor Park Area
    Learn the best techniques for cooking over a campfire and how to work with native ingredients. Come hungry!
  • 4-5 p.m.: Build-A-Better-Fish Craft • Nature Center Classroom
    Participants will create their own fish based on different adaptations and habitat changes. Program is best suited for younger audience. Space is limited.
  • 5-6 p.m.: Historical Hike • Outdoor Park Area
    Learn about the history of Pemberton Park while hiking around Pemberton Hall.
  • 6-7 p.m.: Guided Hike and Fishing Demo • Pondside Trail
    Learn about the water access points and aquatic life in Pemberton Park, then learn how to catch them!
  • 6-7 p.m.: Scavenger Hunt • Nature Center Classroom / Outdoor Park Area
    Participants will be grouped together to search for various items throughout the park. This is a timed activity – first group to return with all their items wins a prize! Program is best suited for younger audience. Space is limited.
  • 7-8 p.m.: Owl Prowl Hike • Woodland Trail Participate in a guided hike on the Woodland Trail and listen for native owls. An instructor will give tips on how to find these birds of prey by teaching various owl calls.

Camping Option

Campers must register in advance. Link coming soon!

Those registered for camping may participate in the following activities.

  • 8-10 p.m.: Movie and Bonfire
    Snuggle up next to the campfire and enjoy an educational movie. S’mores kits will be available for purchase. Firewood is provided.

Sunday, June 25

  • 8-9 a.m.: Campers can enjoy a breakfast provided by a local food vendor.
